With over 10 years-experience in franchising, Wambugu is a highly accomplished franchise consultant who is spearheading the franchise industry growth in East Africa.

Wambugu helps governments to mainstream franchising as a strategy for long-term GDP growth through working closely on numerous entrepreneurship development programs with MSMEs support organizations such as the AfDB, AfCFTA and Afreximbank among others including the Government of Tanzania and the Government of Zanzibar.

Wambugu conceptualized the AfDB-funded Africa Franchising Accelerator Project(AFRAP) in Tanzania which is building 100 indigenous brands into franchise brands.

He has presented on franchising in many entrepreneurship conferences across East Africa, including Kenya National Assembly’s Speakers’ Forum.

Wambugu presented Africa Franchising Accelerator Project (AFRAP) at the General Assembly of the World Franchise Council (WFC) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, opening the door for Tanzania to join the WFC. He represented Tanzania and Kenya in the now-defunct Pan African Franchise Federation (PAFF).

Wambugu has participated in a survey of the franchise sector in 18 African countries commissioned by the Afrexim Bank, a report of which was launched in mid-June 2022.

He has published over 120 articles on franchising and discussed franchising on national TV channels in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

Having carried out leadership and change management training for many organizations and governments across East Africa since 2001, Wambugu currently, aims to place franchising at the driving seat for supporting MSMEs in East Africa and beyond.
